Yesterday in our coaching session, my coaching client said, "It’s like the juice for the written page is harder to find.”
And that makes perfect sense
The beginning juice, that magic, is the idea in your head. It's the concept that you play with, love, roll around in your brain, take down this path and that.
The problem is then trying to put that idea into words. Turning that idea into a linear fashion takes some of the ideal magic out. It’s like taking a symphony of many languages and trying to translate it into one language – the written word. You can hear all those beautiful sounds from all the instruments and languages, but you can only use one language to convey it.
It's like love. When you're in the flow of love, it FEELS wonderful. Now try to explain that feeling to someone with words. It's a lot harder.
Same with writing. We're in love with the idea, and it's hard to put into words.
The solution? Keep playing. Understand that the creative process is crucial. Don't get lost in structure, perfection, form. Roll that idea around, just do it on paper (or mind map or index cards or bouncing off someone else).
The magic is there. Don't shut it off with needing it to fit some idea or perfection.
