Of all the iconic images, songs, and memorized lines from Dirty Dancing, this one's probably the one most bandied about. And made fun of. The writer (Eleanor Bergstein) took risks. She could have played it safe and had Patrick Swayze say something boring like, "Don't treat Frances that way." (Can we all say, "Blech" together?)
No one would have ever remembered.
Instead, she wrote the line we all remember. And, even if you think it's wonderful or you think it's terribly smarmy, you have to admit that it was a risk.
And that's what writing is all about.
