In October's issue of Writer's Digest, I came across Jason Roeder's article on creating writing groups. I found his information to be helpful, especially his last piece of advice on how to withdraw from a writing group without hurting anyone's feelings:
To: writing group
From: Jason@writemail.net
Subject: Rabies
Hey everyone,
I have rabies. Happens.
Best,
Jason
Since I work and write at home, I'm very sensitive to the madness that creeps in from being alone and solitary. In many cases, I'm responsible for getting any work done; no one is standing over me with a whip making sure I get things completed on time. It's all up to me. Not only am I alone, but I'm solely responsible.
Now, that's not completely true. Yes, I work by myself at home, but I collaborate and connect virtually all over the place. Yet, there are times, especially after writing, where I can feel alone and lonely.
This piece made me laugh out loud, which is good. If I can laugh at it, it must mean I haven't gone completely mad.
Yet.
