In yesterday's post, I used the word "dialogue." Both my Firefox browser dictionary and TypePad's dictionary marked it as a misspelled word.
Here's what TypePad thought I wanted to say:
dialog
duologue
Decalogue
dialogs
dialog's
dislodge
deluge
ideologue
I was pretty darn sure it was right, but after it being marked as not a real word, twice, my confidence was shaken. I looked it up in a real dictionary, and yep, there it was - d i a l o g u e.
It's not as if I used an uncommon word or a newfangled concoction like "googled" as a verb. Am I just old fashioned, using "dialogue" instead of "dialog"?
How do you spell it? Please, let's open up a dialogue. :)

"Dialogue" is the only way I would spell it (and the only option in my dictionary). But I may be old fashioned, too.

My techie husband says that "dialog" can be used technically, as in "A dialog box will open up..." However, he agrees that when talking about the conversation, "dialogue" shold be the only choice. :)
My Websters allowed "dialog" as another form of "dialogue," but as far as the OED is concerned, "dialog" doesn't exist.
