Ah, Christmas season! I don't care if it is still November; I love Christmas!
Now, I'm not one of those nutzoids who has all her Christmas shopping done by June, and I refuse to listen to any music with even a hint of bells. The day after Thanksgiving, however, is another story. It's Christmas!
There's hot chocolate, Christmas carols, beautiful lights, cookies and candies, and, of course, favorite Christmas movies. Below is the list of movies we start watching as soon as the turkey leftovers are gone: traditional movies as well as some you probably never would have thought of as Christmas movies.
Long Kiss Goodnight – If you liked Geena Davis in Commander in Chief, check her out as an assassin-with-amnesia-turned-schoolteacher with Samuel Jackson.
The Santa Clause and The Santa Clause 2 – I'll admit that I love Tim Allen as Santa Claus. I haven't seen Santa Claus 3 yet (I'm a little afraid to; I haven't read any good reviews about it).
It's a Wonderful Life - I was watching It's A Wonderful Life well before it was popular.
Miracle on 34th Street – I was introduced to Miracle after It's a Wonderful Life, so I have to admit I'm in the Wonderful Life camp. One of my favorite holiday books is Miracle and Other Christmas Stories, and “Miracle” follows the amusing tale of a woman who gets her heart's desire and a Christmas Spirit who insists Miracle on 34th Street is far superior to It's a Wonderful Life.
The Muppet Christmas Carol is by far one of the most faithful renditions of Charles Dickens's Christmas tale (even with the Muppet banter).
One of my new favorites is Love Actually, a series of stories centering around a variety of characters who all seem to be related. It's another Alan Rickman charmer, and Colin Firth also plays a role (no wonder I love this movie!!).
And since we're talking about heartthrobs, a Christmas movie list would not be complete without The Bishop's Wife with Cary Grant and Loretta Young. I will watch any movie with Cary Grant in it!!
The Ref is another foray into non-traditional Christmas movies with one of Kevin Spacey's first major roles. If you have in-law issues, you have to see this movie!
A Christmas Story - You'll shoot your eye out, kid!
And we can't forget Last Holiday.
Enjoy!

:::thud::: You've been enjoying It's a Wonderful Life since before it was popular? Wowwwwwww... yer OLD!
:)
I like the list, and more, the idea of the post, so I think I'll do a copycat of sorts. Do come visit and make your own inane comment about me, won't you, please?

What I mean, you dork, is that I was watching it before it became THE MOVIE to watch for Christmas. I didn't mean that I'd been watching it since it came out in 1946.
:-)

Hi Dawn,
You mentioned some GREAT movies.
I have one to suggest.
If you haven't already seen it, rent "Playing By Heart"
It came out 1999-2000ish and has Gena Rowlands, Sean Connery, Ellen Burstyn, Anthony Edwards, Angelina Jolie and a host of others!
It's on my wish list to own!
Enjoy!
