I've been furiously working on Write Well U and loving it. However, it wasn't always so. In creating this new thing, I can get a tad bit overwhelmed by fear, fear of failing and fear of the unknown. My coach challenged me to work on WWU or any other writing projects (I won't go into what those might be yet - all I'll say is the prospect of writing a book is downright spine-chilling) at least two hours a week. Unfortunately, blogging and journaling don't count. Bummer.
So, I have to write (not blogging or journaling) for two hours a week.
And - I have to reward myself afterward.
Darn. Do I have to? :-)
Once I took her up on her challenge and started working on WWU, the fear dissipated, and the excitement replaced it. Then, with What's Next, the momentum burst forth, and I've wanted to work on WWU all the time.
While the excitement may have replaced the fear, I'm not forgetting about the rewards. Uh-uh. No way!
Here are some of my favorite rewards:
- Starbucks hot chocolate with a shot of almond. Yum!!!
- Tea and scones
- Watch a favorite movie, especially The Thin Man, Love Actually, A&E's Pride and Prejudice (don't even talk to me about the new one with Keira Knightley), and anything with Cary Grant or the Hepburn and Tracy team
- Read a fun magazine. Here are some I've picked up lately: SageWoman, Town & Country (I picked up the latest issue because it had an article on Katherine Hepburn's estate), Renaissance, and the Robb Report on Luxury Hotels
- Take a bath. This one is always a great option, but I recently found that my issues with the computer in the DCS can cause problems with taking a bath. Let's just say that there were suds everywhere, and I came into the bathroom when the water level was an 1/8 of an inch from the top of the tub. And this is a big freaking tub!!!! So creating standards for my new computer to retain residency status in the DCS also helps keep my bathroom from flooding. :-)
What are your favorite rewards, and, more importantly, do you reward yourself?

Awesome idea! As you know I'm going through a "What's Next" phase in my business and life. I never thought about rewards; but, you can best believe I'm all over them now.
I'll definitely be borrowing a few of your rewards - especially the A&E P&P one. I may plan a Colin Firth Day when I finish writing my first outline!
Also, another good one (after reading through some of my Nitpicker's Guide to Star Trek NG) would be to sit down with my guide and DVD of the episode and go through the show pick by pick. That would be great fun for me!
Hey how about that, now I'm motivated! Must go, I have an outline to finish! :D

Antonette,
Great rewards!!! And I'm glad you're starting to institute a system of rewards for yourself.
I think we should all reward ourselves for everything - cleaning the house, being nice to others, cooking dinner, being good to ourselves - isn't positive reinforcement supposed to be the way to go?
:-)
Love,
Dawn
