I've always wanted to write ever since I was little. Maybe it had something to do with my grandfather being a writer (and he's actually had a couple of short stories published), and even his writing a story called "Dawn's Star." (When my first grade teacher read the story aloud, one of my classmates said, "I don't think the Dawn in the story is you. Uh uh." Jealous, he was.)
I've written stories, essays, and even started a couple of novels. Somehow, though, I always got stuck on the "what to write" piece. My novels died a slow, lingering death over that very thing. Where do I go from here? What's the point of the story? What are the characters really doing?
What do I write?
Then, when I was doing my weekly Divine Computer Tips, I stressed about the chore of coming up with enough fodder for Divine Inspirations and the quotation blurbs.
Again, what in the world do I write about? Is there enough out there that I'll find interesting enough to write about (and other people will find interesting enough to read - well, I guess there's always that question, but we'll deal with that another day)?
Even when I first started this blog, I worried that I wouldn't have enough to write about. But once I started, I found I was calling myself a writer (since that is the next path in my journey), and I was thinking about writing all the time - best practices in writing, what I could write about, my new company, the writing program around which my new company will center, words... you name it - if it had to do with writing, I was thinking about it.
All of the sudden, the floodgates opened, and the words came pouring out.
I found I could write about anything: from my journalling to my daily struggles with closing my virtual assistance practice to my journey of creating me to fleas on my dog. Inspiration was all around me. All I had to do was to pay attention and listen.
So, if there's something you want, desire to accomplish, need to do, make it part of your daily life. Subscribe to newsletters on the subject, read blogs from people that inspire you, buy books on that topic, talk to your loved ones about your dreams....
You'll find that once you turn your attention to whatever that it is, you'll do it.
